I think TNG grows on you but yes, it often feels peculiar. I believe them as a family but it got way too comfortable in the Berman/Braga rut and the style in which everything was presented, very clean and neat and safe. Their effect on the franchise was to keep TNG and VOY too neat. When they tried to act all "badass" with the TNG movies they were trying too hard, it was like nerds playing gangsta. Nemesis is awful, FC is okay. They deserved better movies, different or not.

That is not to say i am rubbishing your opinion, i personally find the akira to be a stunning design, but thats my personal taste. I am simply explaining the logistical reasons for its exixtence. Its like a modern navy.... they do not field big battle ships exclusively, they have destroyers frigates and attack craft as well. Horses for courses mate.big powerful slow moving ships alone would bankrupt you, and not solve all your tactical needs.

because they operate in completely different ways.. The akira was part of starfleets advanced starship design program and designed as part of the counter to the borg. Starfleet designed them because they packed a massive amount of firepower into a small hull (much like the defiant steamrunner etc). Galaxy classes were incredibly expensive and time consuming to build. In the case of a conflict far more akiras could be built than galaxies, allowing for more firepower for less resources.

hmm lets see.... the akira is a dedicated combat ship that was designed for battle, as oposed to the Exploration and science roles of the other ships you mentioned. The olympic class was a medical vessel, again a different purpose. And the constitution class is decades older than the 3 you mention therefore it does not really stand up to comparison, although many consider it to have been a beautiful ship. I am not attacking you mate, just explaining :)

I disagree with you... Generations was an awesome movie as was Nemesis. Furthermore, TNG T.V.series episodes such as "The Survivors" where the Enterprize D encounters the Husnoch Armodillo was a breathtaking battle. If the Enterprize D would have unleashed that kind of firepower against other adversaries in the series, they would have been destroyed instantly. Don't forget just how far photon technology had progressed by that time.

The henchman at tactical was not a trained star fleet officer and was an idiot! Besides, their shields were up. A phaser blast from the Enterprize would have done nothing to them with their shields up. It would have been interpreted as a standard procedure for the Enterprize to lock phasers after being attacked.

They tried to recreate this cat and mouse tactical space battle in ST VI and failed MISERABLY!! Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was done PERFECTLY..saved the whole franchise. Unfortunetely that franchise has given us a bunch of monkey shit for 23 yrs now! Just go back in your memory to 1987 and delete everything in there from that point on.
